BBC Learning English：Wish + Had + PP (Grammar Challenge)
這是改版前的 BBC Learning English 其中一個單元。過了這麼多年了我還是珍藏著這集的，因為覺得實在太好笑了！！
他們請了一位南韓學生上節目，討論 wish + had + pp 的用法（但願當初…）。

學以致用的典範（笑）
想不到這位南韓學生在節目尾聲，居然應用了今天教的句型說：「英國天氣爛食物爛，早知如此我就去加拿大跟美國！！」（也算是很棒的學以致用啊哈哈）。
節目一開始，主持人先問他知不知道什麼是 regret（英英解釋：You did something in the past. You want to go back to the past and change it.），又給了他很多講解跟例子：
- I wish I had taken my umbrella.
- I wish I hadn’t bought that rather expensive dress in the sales.
文法公式重點解析：
- wish + 過去式動詞（但願現在可以___，但就是沒辦法啊）
- 例句：I wish you were here.
- wish + had + pp（但願之前可以___，但沒辦法改變過去了）
- 例句：I wish you had warned me about his bad temper.
經典現場對話：
之後主持人給他一些文法轉換的測試。節目最後，主持人問他有沒有什麼 regrets… 這位南韓同學說：
Student: “I’m disappointed with British weather and food. I wish I had gone to America or Canada!!!”
Host:(倒抽一口氣) “I can’t believe I’m hearing this… This is the BBC. Do you realise what you were saying??!?”
重要提醒與常見誤用：wish vs. hope
若沒有很肯定，還是查一下 wish 所有的用法（包含 wish + 名詞，或名詞形態的 wish）。
- wish 後面接動詞時，指的都是「不可能的事」。
- 如果你希望未來會發生某件事，用的是 hope。
- 正確：I hope you can come to my birthday party this weekend.
- 正確：看到別人生病，應該說 I hope you get well soon.
(這時候若說成 wish 是非常可怕的，好像他永遠不會好了！！)
其他像 We wish you a merry Christmas 或是 Make a wish 的用法，跟這裡教的文法與詞性都是不一樣的喔！
