【佳句本養成】雅思寫作萬用句型：Be (more / less) likely to…
不管是不是要考雅思，想要把英文作文／學術寫作搞定，需要大量閱讀之外，還必須從文章中選擇適合自己程度的句型，登記在「佳句本」上。
而這些佳句必須被經常拿出來複習，並且要嘗試用在適合的作文段落裏（不能為了用某個句型而硬要用，這樣經常會因為不自然反而被扣分）。
希望讓自己英文可以保持進步的同學，一週真的至少要精讀一篇像這樣的文章＋搜集句型才行。這些文章裏出現的句型，很多都是我在上課時教的，上過課的同學來讀這些文章應該會感覺到相當熟悉，是很好的複習。
重點句型：People are/were much more likely to ....
今天跟大家介紹一句看似簡單，但不管在雅思裏或生活中都非常常用到的句子。在這篇新聞中有出現這個句子多次：
新聞標題概念：People (are被省) less likely to move than in 1970s in England and Wales.
- 比較級句型表達：
- People in England and Wales were much more likely to move home in the 1970s than in the first decade of the 2000s.
- People now just move less than they did in the 1970s.
- 詳細數據與細節支撐：
- In the 1970s, 55% of people moved address across the course of a decade, and in the 2000s that had fallen to 45%.
以上三部曲在雅思小作文很常出現：「先見林，再見樹」、「先描述大方向，再講細節與數字」。這樣的邏輯連貫性不是只出現在雅思，人生中很多事情的思路我覺得都是這樣。
文章後面又出現一次相反的用法（less likely）：
In terms of the labour market and economy, it suggests that people are less likely to risk uprooting to move to a new job or to new areas.
佳句庫示範（來自可信網站的實用例句）
Be likely to 這句在文法班裏我會教，我們每堂課都會教幾句佳句並且示範如何使用，學生回家後必須在我們發的「佳句本」裏練習造句，每四堂我們就會把佳句本收回來改後再發還同學。
不會造句的學生可以先上網路上找看看用到 be likely to 的句型，找到後抄寫下來，這算是打掉重練的中級動作。以下是我在可信賴的網站上找到的句型：
- Studies show that people who eat too much meat are 20 percent more likely to develop cancer.
- People who engage in more physical activity are less likely to develop coronary heart disease.
- People who are more active are less likely to be overweight or obese.
- Smokers are more likely to suffer from anxiety and depression.
- Men are more likely to smoke cigarettes to control their emotions than women.
- Some people are more likely than others to get hooked quickly on cigarettes.
- People with mental illness are 70 percent more likely to smoke cigarettes than people without mental illness.
- Younger Americans are less likely to believe in God of the Bible.
- Married people are more likely than the unmarried to get timely diagnosis and treatment for malignant skin cancer.
學習注意事項：在精不在多，一步一腳印
同學可以設定從每一篇好文裏至少要取出二三個句子。切記這些動作是在精不在多，雅思大作文也只不過需要寫二十句話。抄了一大堆但都不是很會用，那這一切都是白費力氣。
抄下來後一定要模仿造句，但模仿的程度請不要太過劇烈！有些同學會一口氣把佳句裏的主詞、動詞、補語或受格全部換光光，整個句子已經完全不像佳句了。。。那就不是佳句的用意了啊。
所以請同學務必一步一腳印，踏實一點、老實一點地練習。有一天你會發現你不知不覺自然地用出這些句型，那時的成就感，內心的顆顆顆只有你自己知道了。
